Reciprocation.

They say that love makes the world go around, and in a way they are correct. However, to be fully correct perhaps the saying should say, “Reciprocated love makes the world go around.”

Reciprocation requires more than a single participant. Everything is life is reciprocal, we begin teaching this lesson to our children at a very young age, and hopefully we never stop teaching them, and ourselves, that the act of receiving is improved by the act of giving.

The lesson doesn’t seem tough, yet so many either forget it or grow to believe that they should receive a little more than they give. Think about that for a moment and you’ll realize this thinking inevitably leads to imbalance. If everyone takes just a little more than they receive, who are they taking it from?

For someone to gain, another must give.

Give as much as you get, and balance will return to our chronically unbalanced world.

Which brings me to the reason for this post. I recently joined a Book Club that goes by the Twitter hashtag #RaveReviewsBookClub. The unique premise of this club is that in order to become a member, and remain a member in good standing, you must read and review the works of other members.

And there it is. A book club where you do for others, and others will do for you. The essence of reciprocation.

If you are either a writer or a reader, please consider joining this book club. The club has a wide range of great works by a growing number of independent authors. Whatever your personal preference might be Rave Reviews Book Club has something for you.

Tempted? Great, then click this link, join the club, visit the blogs and when you’re done vote for the post you enjoy most.

Let the reciprocation begin!

{P.S. I would be honored if you mentioned me as your sponsor should you decide to join!  I would be doubly honored if you decided to review my work, “Beltamar’s War” as part of your membership dues, however that decision I leave entirely to you.  Good reading!}

  1. Thank you so much for participating in Rave Reviews’ Blog Recruiting Day Contest! It makes me so happy to read about your experiences/impressions here. Best wishes for your continued success and good luck with your entry! xoxo 🙂

Pardon the late reply. I’m not a competitive person at all, guess I missed the part of the promotion that mentioned it was. I am, however, very glad to have supported the club. 🙂

  2. Nice post. ‘Give as much as you get.’ I like that philosophy.

    • C.G.Ayling says:

Can you imagine a world where that philosophy is not thought of as unusual? I can, and often do. Thank you for the comment!

  3. Nonnie Jules says:

I too, like the concept of reciprocating SUPPORT! Of course, I do, this was my idea! Great post and I am also a poet so I will definitely be checking out more of your work shortly! Good luck in the contest!

    • C.G.Ayling says:

Thank you Nonnie. Just as a matter of interest, we use the name “Jules” as on of multiple nicknames for our youngest daughter, Julia. If you like poetry some of Julia’s is sprinkled in amongst mine. You’ll recognize it immediately – it is the “good stuff” :).

  4. You have written like the poet you are, short and deep in meaning. Well done.

    • C.G.Ayling says:

I have never thought of my self as a poet. However more and more as the travails of life wear past I feel a strong desire to share my thoughts in a melodic form. Possibly because of the impact music has had on me. I hear a song, and I remember it, thus the desire is to speak in a song-like way, and to be remembered for that.
That might be why I far prefer the written word to the spoken, it allows me time to form a suitable response. Thank you for the kindness in your comment.

  5. Great post! If you give, you will also receive. Thank you for participating.

    • C.G.Ayling says:

Giving is receiving. We give something, anything, material, emotional or spiritual, and even as we do we feel our spirit replenished by the act itself. Thank you for giving back, and than you too for receiving.

How about giving freely from your heart and take only what you need?
I have learned that “reciprocation” can not be assumed nor expected.
For me “reciprocation” is an unmeasurable blessing and surprise that happens along.
“It’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.” ― Mother Teresa
“For it is in giving that we receive.” ― St. Francis of Assisi

Another insightful comment. My post was written specifically for a club recruitment drive so the context modifies the words slightly.
If we only ever give with anticipation of receiving in return we are not reciprocating, we are trading. To me there is a significant difference.
Further, let us not mistake charity for reciprocation. To be charity, one must give freely with no anticipation of return. Charity is like a flow, it naturally flows from those who have more than their share to those who have less. Charity strives to even the balance.
