{"id":2927,"date":"2013-07-21T11:33:05","date_gmt":"2013-07-21T16:33:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/?p=2927"},"modified":"2013-07-21T11:33:05","modified_gmt":"2013-07-21T16:33:05","slug":"the-gods-of-what-will-not-be","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/poetry\/the-gods-of-what-will-not-be\/","title":{"rendered":"The gods of what will not be&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>The gods of what will not be&#8230;<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em> ~<\/em><br \/>\n<em> The gods of what will not be,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> they, who who strip the dreams<\/em><br \/>\n<em> from those as me<\/em><br \/>\n<em> and thee.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Though we gird our dreams in reality,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> the gods of what will not be<\/em><br \/>\n<em> wash our words with their false tears.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> A scorn of acid rain,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> on us they pour<\/em><br \/>\n<em> and strip our dreams till they&#8217;re bare,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> and plain.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> With a rumbled laugh they watch<\/em><br \/>\n<em> our fragile dreams shatter<\/em><br \/>\n<em> and laugh again,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> as you begin to believe<\/em><br \/>\n<em> your dreams don&#8217;t matter.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ~<\/em><br \/>\n<em> A cloak of failed dreams<\/em><br \/>\n<em> upon their shoulders worn,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> striped of color by their scorn.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Held tight within our hearts,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> our dreams unborn<\/em><br \/>\n<em> die,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> and turn,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> into bitter ash<\/em><br \/>\n<em> the final tendrils,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> of our earthy tale.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> False gods gorge, even as we rail<\/em><br \/>\n<em> against their unjust rule.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Fearful we will arise,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> they cast their ash into our eye<\/em><br \/>\n<em> and bend our ear<\/em><br \/>\n<em> with their misbegotten lies,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> served as truth,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> intended to distract,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> and from our dreams,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> we turn, and go.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ~<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Shoulders hunched,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> beneath debts untrue,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> which to our false deities<\/em><br \/>\n<em> allegedly,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> are due.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> One last time we turn,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> and glimpse<\/em><br \/>\n<em> what might have been,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> were we not blind subjects to<\/em><br \/>\n<em> the gods<\/em><br \/>\n<em> of what will not be.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ~<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Thank you for reading, if you prefer poetry of a lighter nature please consider reading my poem on <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/CGApFrn\">Friends<\/a>.<br \/>\nIf you&#8217;d like to explore the inner working on my mind, then <a title=\"jump in and read the start, of something completely different...\" href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/CGAmb1s\">this might be the place to begin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">PS.
