{"id":3251,"date":"2013-11-14T11:44:57","date_gmt":"2013-11-14T16:44:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/?p=3251"},"modified":"2013-11-14T11:44:57","modified_gmt":"2013-11-14T16:44:57","slug":"judgement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/general\/judgement\/","title":{"rendered":"Judgement!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On one hand we\u2019re required to make an endless series on judgments, yet on the other we face the societal ethic, \u201c<strong><em>Judge not lest ye be judged<\/em><\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Judgment is such an emotive, contradictory word isn\u2019t it?\u00a0 Here is a definition of judgment, \u201c<a title=\"this is what the internet says, and the internet never lies... or does it? you be the judge...\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/judgement\" target=\"_blank\"><em>the ability to judge, make a decision, or form an opinion objectively, authoritatively, and wisely, especially in matters affecting action; good sense; discretion:\u2026<\/em><\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So what are we supposed to do? \u00a0Let\u2019s consider these contradictions.<\/p>\n<p>Life absolutely requires us to make an almost endless series of judgments, in the form of minor decisions.\u00a0 We cannot choose to opt out of making these judgments, because if we don&#8217;t choose we simply cannot function.\u00a0 We face judgments constantly, and often without awareness or conscious thought.\u00a0 Little choices in which we weigh the relative merits and choose.\u00a0 Should I wear red or blue?\u00a0 Should I take one lump, or two.\u00a0 Should I speed up, or slow down? \u00a0If this food safe for my family?\u00a0 Can I afford this?\u00a0 Should I answer this telephone call or text right away, or can it wait?\u00a0 Should I read <a title=\"philosophy is what it's really about, or is it just a fantasy?\" href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/CGAmb1s\" target=\"_blank\">Malmaxa<\/a>, or go to bed early?\u00a0 The list is quite literally endless.<\/p>\n<p>Some judgments <strong>need<\/strong> to be made, and if we don\u2019t make them someone will suffer for our indecision.\u00a0 These judgments can be painful, but they must be made for moral, ethical, and safety reasons.\u00a0 You hear what you know to be a lie.\u00a0 You witness an assault. \u00a0\u00a0You witness a theft.\u00a0 You sit on a jury of your peers and have to decide the fate of a proven villain.\u00a0 Do I spend the remnants of my paycheck buying food for my family, or health insurance?<\/p>\n<h2>When you have to judge, don\u2019t be judgmental.<\/h2>\n<p>Some judgments are more judgmental than others.\u00a0 Why don\u2019t we like that person?\u00a0 Exactly what about their statement angered us?\u00a0 Does their difference warrant our angst?\u00a0 Do they stand for something we abhor?\u00a0 Do we understand them, and perhaps more to the point \u2013 do we understand our own reaction to them?<\/p>\n<h2>Yes, we have to judge, but before we do, we should try to understand.<\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On one hand we\u2019re required to make an endless series on judgments, yet on the other we face the societal ethic, \u201cJudge not lest ye be judged.\u201d Judgment is such an emotive, contradictory word isn\u2019t it?\u00a0 Here is a definition of judgment, \u201cthe ability to judge, make a decision, or form an opinion objectively, authoritatively, [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[143,220,221],"class_list":["post-3251","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-general","tag-ethics","tag-judge","tag-judgemental"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3251","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=3251"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3251\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=3251"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=3251"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=3251"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
