{"id":4381,"date":"2015-03-27T08:16:51","date_gmt":"2015-03-27T13:16:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/?p=4381"},"modified":"2015-03-27T08:16:51","modified_gmt":"2015-03-27T13:16:51","slug":"what-is-a-poem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/poetry\/what-is-a-poem\/","title":{"rendered":"What is a poem?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Poems are more about sensation and emotion than they are about rhythm and rhyme.<\/p>\n<p>Poems says much more than the sum of their words.\u00a0 They&#8217;re like a message in a bottle, thrown into a hostile sea, to be found and interpreted by someone whose attention we may only hold for the time taken to read our desperate plea. If we don&#8217;t grasp and hold their heart, how likely are they to set up a search and rescue operation on our behalf?<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the essence of a poem might be that it is a plea for understanding?<\/p>\n<p>With that in mind, here are a couple of mine. Others are scattered throughout the blog, under the category, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/category\/poetry\/\">Poetry<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>~ <strong>Carbon Copy<\/strong> ~<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ~<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Were I to dust you down with soot,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> then lay you on a sheet,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> that is a sheet I&#8217;d surely,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> forever,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> keep.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ~<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>~ <strong>A plea<\/strong> ~<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ~<\/em><br \/>\n<em> With you,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> I&#8217;d like to walk barefoot in the sand,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> the only touch,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> our hands.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> I&#8217;d be tempted to run you into the sea,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> and there,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> upon one knee,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> an eternal pledge,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> I&#8217;d plea.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> We&#8217;d let the waves be our witness,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> the only tears shed,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> the rain,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> as a loving sky enfolds us,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> our souls unite<\/em><br \/>\n<em> to once more<\/em><br \/>\n<em> become<\/em><br \/>\n<em> one,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> again.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ~<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Poems are more about sensation and emotion than they are about rhythm and rhyme.
