{"id":485,"date":"2012-08-21T14:48:26","date_gmt":"2012-08-21T19:48:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/?p=485"},"modified":"2012-08-21T14:48:26","modified_gmt":"2012-08-21T19:48:26","slug":"spin-worth-more-than-contrition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/general\/spin-worth-more-than-contrition\/","title":{"rendered":"Spin, worth more than contrition."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Does spin never take a back seat with you, Mr. Akin?\u00a0 Now you wish to further capitalize on your reprehensible comments about \u201clegitimate rape\u201d by running an advertisement that asks us to forgive you for using \u201c<em>the wrong words<\/em>\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>You might gain some modicum of sympathy if you were contrite and asked for forgiveness for your stupidity, or simply for making such an appalling and callous remark.\u00a0 Instead you reveal your true colors \u2013 you don\u2019t give a hoot about the victims of rape \u2013 namely the women who are raped.\u00a0 No, you are now apologizing for using the wrong words in the wrong way.\u00a0 I notice Mr. Akin doesn\u2019t say \u201cI was wrong.\u201d\u00a0 No, it&#8217;s the words that were wrong \u2013 not Mr. Akin\u2026<\/p>\n<p>In his apology advert, Mr. Akin says \u201cI have a compassionate heart for the victims of sexual assault. I pray for them.\u201d\u00a0 <strong>How generous!<\/strong>\u00a0 Your prayers go a long way toward compensating them for the very real cost of the pregnancy and delivery (by the way, that is a cost in cold hard cash).\u00a0 Your prayers go nearly as far in emotional reparations\u00a0\u2013\u00a0in other words, precisely nowhere.<\/p>\n<p>Later in the advert, Mr. Akin states \u201cThe mistake I made was in the words I said, not in the heart I hold. I ask for your forgiveness.\u201d\u00a0 Again, you lay the blame on the words, not the person speaking them.\u00a0 As to your plea for forgiveness, this is my answer:-<\/p>\n<p>To err is human, to forgive divine, since I am human you don\u2019t get mine!<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Akin, I don&#8217;t believe you are worthy of forgiveness until you acknowledge YOU are wrong\u00a0\u2013 completely and utterly wrong.\u00a0 Perhaps others see this the same way as me, perhaps not.\u00a0 The polls will tell, and it&#8217;s pretty obvious the polls\u00a0are the only thing you truly care about.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Does spin never take a back seat with you, Mr. Akin?\u00a0 Now you wish to further capitalize on your reprehensible comments about \u201clegitimate rape\u201d by running an advertisement that asks us to forgive you for using \u201cthe wrong words\u201d?
