{"id":513,"date":"2012-10-03T16:07:54","date_gmt":"2012-10-03T21:07:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/?p=513"},"modified":"2012-10-03T16:07:54","modified_gmt":"2012-10-03T21:07:54","slug":"voting-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/general\/voting-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"Voting, 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I took advantage of early voting and wanted to share my choices, and my reasoning behind voting the way I did.<\/p>\n<p>Before I begin, let me say a few things about myself. \u00a0I&#8217;m very conservative, and believe strongly in personal freedom, offset by personal responsibility. \u00a0I&#8217;m an independent and consider anyone who votes purely along party lines to be both a dupe, and irresponsible.\u00a0 They&#8217;re effectively abdicating their principle democratic freedom, namely the right to vote, to someone else.\u00a0 Along with being a freedom, voting is also a responsibility &#8211; to evaluate the issues and make subjective personal choices about them. \u00a0By voting along party lines, you give away the keys to your kingdom.\u00a0 Worse, the people to whom you relinquish your rights are biased, and make no bones about being so.<\/p>\n<p>Considering what I\u2019ve already said, you\u2019ve probably already decided how you think I\u2019ve voted &#8211;\u00a0read on and find out how right you might [not] be.<\/p>\n<p>In the interest of reducing the onset of potentially fatal boredom, I\u2019ll restrict this post to the more important issues on my particular ballot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>President<\/strong> \u2013 Score: Barack Obama 0, Mitt Romney -9.\u00a0 No contest, and not because I think Obama is doing a good job, actually I think he\u2019s wasted an extravagant amount of my tax dollars and achieved precious little.\u00a0 However, the thought of returning to the warmongering excesses of the previous eight years is frightening \u2013 I definitely don\u2019t want to go back to the way things were. \u00a0Romney\u2019s every word shows him to be a rich man with no intention of paying his fair share. \u00a0I am yet to hear what his \u201cplan\u201d to turn things around is.\u00a0 Here, let me click my fingers and create 12 million jobs \u2013 there you are, 12 million jobs created!\u00a0 Oh dear, what\u2019s that strange gassy sound \u2013 could it be the sound of virtual reality deflating\u2026?\u00a0 Nope, in good conscience I just can\u2019t cast a vote for someone who clearly has no plan worth sharing on how to solve the financial debacle in which we currently find ourselves \u2013 sorry, but giving yourself and your cronies a fat tax cut isn\u2019t a \u201cplan\u201d.\u00a0 My litany of negatives against Romney goes on, and on, and on but that is the main issue I have with him.\u00a0 Bottom line, I\u2019m not voting for Obama \u2013 I\u2019m voting against Romney.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">When the best choice is the lesser of two evils, it is time to re-evaluate and restate the question.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; C.G.Ayling (@CGAyling) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CGAyling\/status\/252791625074503680?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 1, 2012<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><strong>U.S. Senate<\/strong> \u2013 Score: Sherrod Brown 5, Josh Mandel -20.\u00a0 I have no problems with the way Sherrod Brown has voted on any of the major issues.\u00a0 I have massive reservations as to the character and integrity of Josh Mandel \u2013 whom I consider to be an incompetent Treasurer of State desperately trying to buy his way into the \u201cold boys\u2019 club\u201d using political cronyism as coin. \u00a0Mandel is too young, and too evidently prone to corruption.<\/p>\n<p><strong>U.S. House of Representatives<\/strong> \u2013 Score: Pat Tiberi 8, Jim Reese 0.\u00a0 I find Pat Tiberi to be fiscally conservative and generally responsible, my only real concern is his tendency to blur the lines between church and state.\u00a0 I know virtually nothing about Jim Reese.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ohio House<\/strong> \u2013 Score: Donna O\u2019Connor 5, Mike Duffey 0.\u00a0 I found much more information available on what Donna O\u2019Connor stands for than I could for Mike Duffey.\u00a0 Donna\u2019s goals align well with my own, she is a long time teacher (a profession for which I hold the highest esteem), and she seems concerned by the unashamed bias toward the wealthy evidenced in current Ohio politics.\u00a0 From impartial\u00a0information I can discern, Mike Duffey is just a politician, (a profession for which I hold low esteem).\u00a0 In a way I am sorry to see Donna transition from a laudable profession into the mud-pit of\u00a0politics, but I wish her well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>State Issue 1<\/strong> \u2013 Convention To Revise, Alter, Or Amend The Ohio Constitution. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">No<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>State Issue 2<\/strong> \u2013 State-Funded Commission To Draw Legislative And Congressional Districts. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Yes<\/span>, right now there is frantic gerrymandering by the winners of each Ohio election as they seek to ensure their supporters get an unfair advantage in the next election.\u00a0 Both parties are guilty of this abhorrent behavior.\u00a0 Voting \u201cyes\u201d on Issue 5 changes this into a more efficient and equitable system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>State Issue 48<\/strong> \u2013 Dublin City School District, Bond and Tax Levy.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Yes<\/span>.\u00a0 Dublin Schools are some of the highest rated in the nation, I don\u2019t want to see that change.<\/p>\n<p><strong>State Issue 56<\/strong> \u2013 Franklin County Office on Aging, Tax Levy. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Yes<\/span>.\u00a0 It takes money to provide services to the aged, who deserve to be treated with dignity.<\/p>\n<p><em>~C.G.Ayling &#8211;
