{"id":271,"date":"2012-04-23T11:02:52","date_gmt":"2012-04-23T16:02:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/?p=271"},"modified":"2012-04-23T11:02:52","modified_gmt":"2012-04-23T16:02:52","slug":"have-or-have-not","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/musings\/have-or-have-not\/","title":{"rendered":"Have, or Have-Not."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A student of human nature, I am always fascinated by the way people behave \u2013 and how that behavior is almost universal.<\/p>\n<p>An example of this struck me last night, while watching a show about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oprah.com\/own-oprahs-next-chapter\/Oprahs-Next-Chapter-Oprah-Travels-to-India\" target=\"_blank\">India by Oprah Winfrey<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The show opened with Oprah spending some time with a family that we, in the USA, would consider poverty-stricken.\u00a0 The family of five, a husband and wife with three daughters, live in a single room measuring about nine feet by nine.\u00a0 While the children and wife seemed happy, the father broke down when Oprah asked him about his aspirations for his children\u2026.\u00a0 He wanted a better life for them.<\/p>\n<p>Oprah later visited a family she loosely described as \u201con another level\u201d, while holding her hand high to emphasis this difference.\u00a0 In a physical sense, they indeed were on an entirely different plane.\u00a0 However, on a spiritual level, I felt they were somewhat below the poverty struck family.\u00a0 They seemed largely unaware of the straits within which the vast majority of people living all about them are mired, casually brushing off the fact that they had about five men working in their kitchen.\u00a0 When Oprah\u2019s time with them ended, she once again asked the husband of this family what his aspirations for his family were\u2026\u00a0 He wanted for them exactly what they already had.<\/p>\n<p>Though neither father is &#8220;wrong&#8221;, isn\u2019t that the nature of man &#8211;\u00a0in a nutshell?\u00a0 The wealthy wish to stay wealthy, while choosing to remain oblivious to the plight of the poor.\u00a0 The poor, well they want just a little bit more.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A student of human nature, I am always fascinated by the way people behave \u2013 and how that behavior is almost universal.
