{"id":308,"date":"2012-05-06T11:36:02","date_gmt":"2012-05-06T16:36:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/?p=308"},"modified":"2012-05-06T11:36:02","modified_gmt":"2012-05-06T16:36:02","slug":"bullying","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/heavy-stuff\/bullying\/","title":{"rendered":"Bullying"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>A snippet of conversation started on <a href=\"http:\/\/hengistpeoplehorse.blogspot.co.uk\/2012\/05\/writers-voice-contest-entry.html\">Jacky Gray\u2019s blog<\/a> prompted me to post this.\u00a0 Perhaps as a soul-cleansing\u2026<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Though I was never bullied, as a youth I saw it going on all around me, and &#8211; I am now ashamed to say \u2013 I simply turned a blind eye to it.\u00a0 I have long since changed and have spent a lot of effort with all of my kids, ensuring that they will never stand quietly by while others are mistreated.\u00a0 I\u2019m proud to say they have come to me on many occasions, informing about this kind of behavior (though when my youngest was the victim of bullying she never told us \u2013 strange how that works).\u00a0 In my turn I\u2019ve ensured that the school boards get to learn about it.\u00a0 Sadly, that seems to be the only way to stop bullying dead in its tracks \u2013 too many teachers do nothing about it.<\/p>\n<p>That bullying can be so pervasive in our supposedly enlightened society is frightening.<\/p>\n<p>The worst thing about bullying is that kids are still taught the same old garbage they were when I went to school forty years ago \u2013 \u201c<em>bullies are cowards who feel bad about themselves, and take out their inadequacy on others<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0 Pardon my French, but that is a load of absolute codswallop \u2013 bullies are arrogant turds who firmly believe they are better than their victims.\u00a0 They feel no remorse for their actions and when their victims break down and call for help these bullies attempt to rally support for their abhorrent behavior by calling their victims \u201csnitches\u201d or similar.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bullies do not deserve the pity of their peers.<\/strong> Which is precisely what statements like \u201c<em>bullies feel bad about themselves<\/em>\u201d encourages.<\/p>\n<p>What bullies deserve is to be called to the front of the class where they should be compelled to explain precisely why they think their behavior is acceptable.\u00a0 Unfortunately that is not going to happen, probably because the bullies parents won\u2019t allow it.\u00a0 This makes one wonder exactly where the arrogant belief that they are better than their victims originates, doesn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n<p>Why do schools bother having policies about bullying, when teachers and people in positions of influence do nothing to enforce it?\u00a0 It is very easy to pay lip-service with a written policy.\u00a0 It is altogether much harder to change a culture that ignores injustice.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A snippet of conversation started on Jacky Gray\u2019s blog prompted me to post this.\u00a0 Perhaps as a soul-cleansing\u2026 Though I was never bullied, as a youth I saw it going on all around me, and &#8211; I am now ashamed to say \u2013 I simply turned a blind eye to it.\u00a0 I have long since [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[62,63],"class_list":["post-308","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-heavy-stuff","tag-bully","tag-bullying"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/308","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=308"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/308\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=308"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=308"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=308"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
