{"id":340,"date":"2012-05-21T09:19:48","date_gmt":"2012-05-21T14:19:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/?p=340"},"modified":"2012-05-21T09:19:48","modified_gmt":"2012-05-21T14:19:48","slug":"perceptions-of-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cgayling.com\/malmaxa\/musings\/perceptions-of-time\/","title":{"rendered":"Perceptions, of Time."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Time is something which fascinates me.\u00a0 You see I don\u2019t believe time actually exists.\u00a0 Yes, we have mechanisms to measure this \u201cthing\u201d very precisely.\u00a0 Almost everything we do is somehow tied to time.\u00a0 Yet there is nothing we can do to change it.<\/p>\n<p>Here is an interesting mental problem.\u00a0 If we could travel faster than the speed of light and we travelled away from the earth while training an infinitely powerful telescope upon it, we would witness events that happened in the past.\u00a0 In a manner of speaking, or thinking, we would be \u201covertaking the past\u201d or travelling \u201cback in time\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Now what would happen if we did this for a year, then turned around and raced back toward the earth, still faster than the speed of light?\u00a0 When we turned around wouldn\u2019t we be a year in the past?\u00a0 Or, would a year have passed?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Time is something which fascinates me.\u00a0 You see I don\u2019t believe time actually exists.\u00a0 Yes, we have mechanisms to measure this \u201cthing\u201d very precisely.\u00a0 Almost everything we do is somehow tied to time.\u00a0 Yet there is nothing we can do to change it.
